What are the system requirements?

Multimeter needs macOS 13 Ventura or later. It works on Intel and Apple silicon Macs.

How do I add more meters to my menu bar?

Click any meter in your menu bar and choose Settings…, then click Add next to any meter under More Meters. You can add as many as you like.

Can I change the order of my meters?

Yes. In Settings, drag meters in the In Your Menu Bar list. The top meter sits furthest left.

How do I make my own meter?

Click any meter in your menu bar and choose New Meter… to get a folder of starter files you can edit in any code editor. The Creating Meters guide has the details.

Do my settings sync between Macs?

No. Your meters and themes are saved on each Mac.

Why isn't the time remaining showing?

macOS estimates the time remaining from how you're using your Mac. Right after you plug in or unplug, the meter shows dashes until macOS has an estimate. When your Mac is plugged in but not charging, Time Until shows the percentage instead.

How do I import a meter someone shared with me?

In Settings, click Import… and choose the .multimeter file. The meter appears under More Meters. Click Add to put it in your menu bar.

Can I use Multimeter on a Mac without a battery?

Yes. Meters show your Mac as plugged in, and you can turn off Show charging on this Mac in Settings. To see every battery state, use Simulate Battery in the Multimeter menu.

Troubleshooting

Meter not showing in the menu bar

  • Open Multimeter again from your Applications folder. If it's already running, this opens Settings.
  • Check that at least one meter is in the In Your Menu Bar list in Settings.
  • If your menu bar is full, macOS hides some items. Settings shows a notice when this happens. Remove a meter or another menu bar item to make room.
  • Check that Multimeter is allowed in System Settings › Menu Bar.

Custom meter not loading

  • Make sure manifest.json is valid JSON (no trailing commas, quotes around strings).
  • Check that index.html is in your meter folder.
  • Open Console.app to look for JavaScript errors.
  • Try a built-in meter to make sure Multimeter itself is working.
