Put a timer in your Mac menu bar

Add a Timer meter in Multimeter. Click it to start, pause or reset; the time left counts down in the menu bar and you get a notification when it reaches zero. It starts at 25 minutes, a Pomodoro, and you can set any length.

Multimeter’s built-in faces, running live on sample data.

What macOS shows on its own

The Clock app has timers, and Siri can set one, but neither keeps the time left in the menu bar.

How Multimeter shows it

  • Start Timer, Pause Timer and Reset Timer are right in the meter’s menu.
  • Updates every second while it runs and sleeps the rest of the time.
  • Each timer meter has its own time, kept across restarts.
  • Faces turn yellow in the last 5 minutes and red in the last minute, and a notification arrives when it finishes.

Set it up

  1. Choose Add Meter… and pick Timer.
  2. Set the length in Customize (25 minutes by default).
  3. Click the meter and choose Start Timer.

Every face works with every source it lists. See all 13 faces running live.

Questions

Can I have more than one timer?

Yes. Each timer meter keeps its own time. Put a 25-minute focus timer next to a 5-minute break timer.
