Multimeter vs MenuBar Stats

MenuBar Stats is the cheaper, deeper hardware monitor: $4.99, with GPU, temperatures and fans through a free helper, top processes and 10 Notification Center widgets. Multimeter is for when you want to choose how each number looks, or watch things MenuBar Stats doesn’t: power draw in watts, accessory batteries, timers, countdowns, or a number from your own script or web address.

MenuBar Stats: A modular system monitor (CPU, memory, disk, network, battery, Bluetooth, and GPU, temperatures and fans with a helper) for the menu bar and Notification Center. $4.99 on the Mac App Store (US); also sold direct from seense.com with a free trial. Runs on macOS 14 or later for MenuBar Stats 3 from seense.com (the Mac App Store listing says macOS 11). Latest release: 3.9.916 direct download (September 2026, "macOS 27 bugs fixed"); the Mac App Store has 3.9 from April 2023.

Multimeter: Live meters for anything in the Mac menu bar, each drawn by a face you pick or build yourself. $19.99 one-time, no subscription. Runs on macOS 13 Ventura or later.

Where MenuBar Stats is better

  • It costs a quarter of Multimeter’s price: $4.99 on the Mac App Store, and there’s a free trial from seense.com.
  • GPU, component temperatures and fans through its free Plugins Manager helper. Multimeter has no temperatures or GPU.
  • Top processes for CPU and memory, load average, memory cleaning and ejecting disks from the menu.
  • Connect and disconnect Bluetooth devices in one click, and reminders for when to plug in or unplug the charger.
  • 10 Notification Center widgets, and a combined window that shows every module at once.

Where Multimeter is different

  • Faces: each meter is drawn by a face you pick or build, from a needle gauge to hearts, with 35 built in.
  • Your own numbers from scripts, JSON web addresses, files and multimeter:// links, which MenuBar Stats’ page doesn’t list.
  • Power draw in watts, Bluetooth keyboard, mouse and trackpad battery levels, timers, countdowns and day progress.
  • Runs on macOS 13 Ventura; the current MenuBar Stats 3 download asks for macOS 14.

Which one to pick

Choose MenuBar Stats if you want a low-cost hardware monitor with temperatures, fans, GPU and top processes, plus widgets. Most of that, Multimeter doesn’t do.

Choose Multimeter if you want a handful of numbers drawn the way you like them, including ones that aren’t about hardware: a build status, a countdown, a number from a JSON API, or the output of a script. Browse the 35 built-in faces to see what they look like.

Moving from MenuBar Stats

  1. Note which MenuBar Stats modules you keep in the menu bar.
  2. Add the matching Multimeter meters: CPU, Memory, Disk Space, Network (one per direction), Battery, Fan Speed.
  3. Pick a face for each. Sparkline reads like a graph; Label & Value like plain text.
  4. Add what MenuBar Stats doesn’t have: Power Draw, a Bluetooth Accessory meter for your mouse or keyboard, a timer, or your own numbers.
  5. Keep MenuBar Stats for temperatures, GPU, top processes and its widgets, and remove its modules that Multimeter now covers.

How we checked

We make Multimeter, so read this with that in mind. Competitor facts come from each maker’s own site, README or store listing, checked on October 30, 2026, and are linked below. "Not on its feature page" means we looked and didn’t find it, not that it can’t be done. Multimeter’s numbers are measured on our own Macs. Spot something out of date? Email hello@greatwork.company and we’ll fix it.
